Does Sarah Goetz sleep? Or does she work in her sleep? If you've driven past Manbites Dog Theater, you've glimpsed what looks like a papery cloud hanging in the lobby—that's Goetz's installation piece comprising hundreds of pale paper tags in dense suspension. She has a reception for her newest work, which includes geodesic domes, intimates and devotional molecules and is titled the day i wrote love letters to everyone who's ever given me a hug, at Mercury Studios, with live music at 8 p.m. from All Your Science and ASANA. Scoot down the block to Through This Lens for More Dreams, a show of Chapel Hill photographer Catharine Carter's ethereal images. Some of her work seems glimpsed through Alice's looking glass; other pictures could be a miniature Brothers Quay set. The Durham Arts Council opens two new shows, including Jeanne Heifetz's The Geometry of Hope. Heifetz creates tessellated mixed-media constructions that recall spider webs or dragonfly wings. Jan-Ru Wan, Jody Cassell, Megan Bostic and Samantha Pell also join forces for a group installation titled Resolving the Disquiet.Chris Vitiello
