Documentary photographer Dorothea Lange once said, "Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still."
The time was 2007. Indy photographers Derek Anderson, Jeremy Lange and Rex Miller used the lens not only to capture life's moments, but to connect with their inherent emotional value: The hope of Barack Obama. The despair of a family whose son was killed in the Iraq War. The contemplation of a jazz bassist. The resignation of an exhausted laborer. The exuberance of children on a perfect afternoon.
By themselves, these photos weave individual narratives, but as you'll see in our Multimedia Slide Show, taken together, they tell the story of all of us. —Lisa Sorg
