The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart

When: Sept. 16-20 2012
Price: $25
www.carolinaperformingarts.org
In February of last year, we called the National Theatre of Scotland's production of Black Watch, a harrowing semi-documentary drama based on interviews with Scottish veterans of the Iraqi War, "the strongest show of the season—and, hands down, one of the strongest productions this region has seen over the past decade." That experience has already caused a run on tickets for their return this week, as Carolina Performing Arts brings the troupe back for another unconventional staging and another regional premiere. This time, the company takes over the Back Bar at Top of the Hill for the rhyming, ribald and raucous tale of a scholar who finds her descent into Hell an upgrade from the academic conference she'd been attending. But what fate can await a lover of Scottish ballads who discovers she's trapped in one? —Byron Woods
