The smoking ban: Who's receiving complaints?

The state health department's Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch receives complaints from citizens about bars and restaurants that may be violating the smoking ban each week and transfers them to local health departments for follow up. The complaints aren't valid until a member of a county health department visits the bar and observes the alleged violation.

By county

Statewide, there have been 520 complaints of businesses violating the smoking ban through the first three weeks of January.

The statistics are updated online every Tuesday. Feb. 2 data was not available at press time.

County   Last Week   Cumulative

By city

County health departments received complaints from the public and investigated alleged smoking-ban-related incidents during the first three weeks of the new law. Some businesses had multiple allegations within the same complaint. A reported complaint is not a violation until it is validated by the local health department.
