If you can't make it to New York, you can still enjoy live performances from the Metropolitan Opera. The Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series "The Met: Live in HD," now in its eighth season, brings a high-definition simulcast of their operas to more than 650 cinemas nationwide. This one features the innovative William Kentridge production of Shostakovich's The Nose, which plays up the satire and surrealism of the darkly humorous Gogol story upon which it's based. Paulo Szot is a bureaucrat who suffers adventures in search of his missing nose. Valery Gergiev conducts.
