This is the Bard, deconstructed. The theatrical troupe hiSTORY Stage, run by Raleigh historical re-enactment company Historic Interpretations (look for them at local Renaissance festivals), presents acclaimed critic/playwright/director Charles Marowitz's postmodern version of Hamlet. In what Marowitz terms a theatrical "collage," Shakespeare's original text is broken up, remixed and reassembled into a modern, stream-of-consciousness flow, as the mentally exhausted Hamlet hallucinates, imagines and (mis)remembers the unfolding of events. Characters appear and disappear; familiar scenes, characters and relationships are intercut. The play, which reduces the original Shakespeare to a swift 90 minutes, will mess with your head a little, that much is certain. —Emma Miller
