The Leader

When: Oct. 25-28 2012
Price: $10-17
www.baretheatre.org

At first glance, it seems a coals-to-Newcastle proposition: Why cram any more absurdity into an election season already chock full of it? For one thing, the absurdist Ionesco one-act that gives this evening of comedy and criticism its name isn't actually looking at any of the candidates on this fall's ballots; it's busy scrutinizing what it means to be a follower instead. Accompanying vignettes by the ensemble examine the historical (and hysterical) mystique of leadership—when the audience isn't getting a TSA security shakedown by clowns. Shows at 8 p.m. Thursday–Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday precede a two-week run at Raleigh's Visual Art Exchange. —Byron Woods
