Not yet 3 years old, Chapel Hill's The Hissy Fits are a band at ease with a number of divergent styles. The quartet nods toward '90s ska-core and undercuts indie rock's reserve with pop-punk's earnestness. They drive into muscular hard rock and pull back into emotive acoustic strumming. While they still seem to be in development as a cohesive act, The Hissy Fits and their blend of references are already promising. Their mates on this bill, Asheville's Morbids, are steadily planted in a classic indie approach, merging math rock fitfulness with Sebadoh's cool crunch.
