The Guilt Trip

When: Wed., Dec. 19 2012

Decades after writing, directing and starring in Yentl, Barbra Streisand is back on the big screen playing a yenta in this new road-trip comedy about a young inventor (Seth Rogen) who takes his mom along on a business trip to help her reconnect with an old flame. Should this be anything like my old road trips with my parents, Rogen will be encouraged to look for more steady work, preferably in a small town where one of his more obscure cousins lives, and he'll be forced to listen to a great deal of A Prairie Home Companion, setting into motion a lifelong aversion to the radio. The script was written by Dan Fogelman, who did Crazy Stupid Love, which I liked, and Cars, Cars 2 and the alien-based sitcom The Neighbors, which was less likeable. So, 50-50 chance on this one. Decide for yourself. —Zack Smith
