When it comes to some side projects, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. In the case of The Elected, or what Rilo Kiley guitarist Blake Sennett does in his spare time, it might not seem like the apple even came off the branch. Sennett's fondness for bright and shiny country-flavored pop music is totally in line with the tunes made by his more famous other band, as well as those made by his other band's frontwoman (Jenny Lewis). If you're wondering whether that's a good thing, give this year's Bury Me in My Rings a listen and put your fears to rest. —David Raposa
