Just a few months after Clay Aiken took the stage in North Carolina Theatre's presentation of this parody of 1920s musical comedy tropes, Duke University student musical theater group Hoof 'N' Horn presents its own rendition. Middle-aged, agoraphobic Man in Chair welcomes the audience into his living room and plays a record of his favorite musical: the 1928 hit The Drowsy Chaperone. No, the musical doesn't actually exist, but this play within a play perfectly nails the old-timey musical formula with gangsters, flappers, Broadway starlets and oil tycoons—and running commentary provided by Man in Chair.
