The Besnard Lakes, Gray Young

When: Wed., May 1, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $10

Don't let the cumbersome title of Montreal band The Besnard Lakes' fourth album—Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO—dissuade you. Behind that oddly poetic jumble of words is music both epic and serene, combining the celestial textures of the most forward-thinking shoegaze acts with heavenly harmonies (equal parts Beach Boys and Low). There's a nice helping of classic rock grandeur, too. If any group can call their music a transporter with a straight face, it's these fine folks. With sonic brothers-in-grandeur Gray Young opening, you might want to designate a driver even if you don't plan to drink. —David Raposa
