The Beat Down 2

When: Thu., April 11, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $5

Jamla Records producer Khrysis has started selling the second edition of his online-only drum kit. This newest one is called These Are the Breaks, and it features "90 fat & gritty analog drum nuggets." Plenty of established beatsmiths (Illmind, M-Phazes, Ski Beatz) have taken a similar route, making them even more qualified to judge the chops of up-and-coming producers. However, sifting through the works of overly confident newcomers whose go-to moves consist entirely of Motown samples and oblivion might cause any of these judges to have a meltdown. Perhaps some originality will break through at one of these beat battles and a new Flying Lotus or Hit-Boy will be discovered. This is The Voice remixed as The Noise, where the local celebrity judges are your favorite drum arrangers. —Eric Tullis
