Temple Grandin

When: Mon., Feb. 21, 4:30 p.m. 2011
Price: EVENT FULL

Advocates of animals rights—or just regular viewers of HBO—may want to hear Temple Grandin's talk, "My Experience with Animals." Grandin, the subject of an Emmy-winning HBO movie starring Claire Danes last year, is a remarkable story. A high-functioning autistic, Grandin has a unique perception of the world that has led to her revolutionizing the livestock industry with new humane animal-handling techniques. Named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world for 2010, Grandin already has received an honorary doctorate from Duke and will now share her insights with the university as part of the Women's Studies Program's "Animals and the Question of Species" series. The 4:30 p.m. event is free and open to the public, but advance tickets are required; to get tickets, call 684-4444 or e-mail tickets@duke.edu. The event is now full; tickets are no longer available.Zack Smith
