Winner of the 2007 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, Taxi to the Dark Side examines U.S. policy on detention and rendition with the appalling case study of an Afghan taxi driver beaten to death in 2002 while in dubiously legal U.S. custody. The Oscar-nominated film Zero Dark Thirty has brought torture issues to the fore again; Taxi offers a stark counterpoint. The screening is sponsored by Students for a Democratic Society and the Internationalist Prison Books Collective. —Glenn McDonald
