SwitchPoint | Haw River Ballroom | Special Events | Indy Week
This is a past event.

When: Thu., April 24, 8 a.m. 2014
Price: $60-$250

Ah spring, the time for baseball games, Claritin tablets and—apparently—big ideas-heavy networking festivals named like nebulous spy movie cabals. Not two weeks after Paradoxos cleared out of downtown Durham, the third annual SwitchPoint conference infiltrates Saxapahaw. Its bullet points are boilerplate: technology, entrepreneurship, humanitarian issues, creativity and design, innovation and collaboration. Bringing together TED talk types from cutting-edge industries, it's two days of speeches, interactive labs and business card-trading with 3D organ printers, recycled medical device manufacturers and emergency response crowd-sourcers. Talks take up education, "artivism," surveillance and hackers; lunchtime musical performances feature Kaira Ba and Hindugrass. New York Times Magazine and Wired writer Clive Thompson sets the tech-positive tone with a keynote speech based on his new book Smarter Than You Think: How Technology is Changing Our Minds for the Better. Test out that elevator pitch for your app idea through April 25. —Brian Howe
