RALEIGH
BLUE MAN GROUP
RBC CENTER—As gimmicks go, it's hard to beat. Theatrical in the extreme and covered in blue paint, what started as three friends busking by doing street theater in New York has become nothing short of a phenomenon that bridges music, dance and theater in a more inventive way than, say, Showboat. While mute, the blue performers (who Homer Simpson called "a rip-off of the Smurfs") manage to critique modern culture and technology while offering a kinetic visual experience. Musically, their dynamic rhythmic pulse and found object pounding pales next to Test Dept., but—given the rest of the show—that's OK. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and tickets range from $49.50-$85. —Chris Parker
