THOR

LOCAL 506--Rock music can become an amorphous thing. Sometimes we need bigger than life; a hero like the Hammer of Odin-wielding Thor, prince of hard rock. In his loin-cloth and Mr. Universe frame, there's no mystery--it's all glutes and guitar worship. Beware the Morbid Ramblers, members of that collective cult of beloved pranksters at Hollow Bunny Records, who brought us the wonders of Grand Pricks and ... Pine State. Run, don't walk, but keep your distance. Thunder drops at 9 p.m. with Destroy Destroy Destroy and costs $10. --Chris Toenes

SUSAN COWSILL

THE POUR HOUSE--From the Cowsills to the Continental Drifters, with countless guest appearances in between, Susan Cowsill has been making music professionally for four decades. But there's nothing remotely music business-y about her sound and approach. On the contrary, an evening in the musical presence of Susan Cowsill inspires such adjectives as organic, heartfelt, straightforward and, when she and the band get cooking, simply rocking. John Brannen opens this show with a soulful take on Americana and the support of gifted guitarist Duane Jarvis. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the music starts at 7. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. --Rick Cornell
