Cary
Idina Menzel
Koka Booth Amphitheatre—Award-winning Broadway star Idina Menzel (famous for her green-faced performance as Elphaba in Wicked, as well as for being an original cast member of Rent) brings a calculated grace to her solo projects, showcasing her stage-wizened vocal control: Her shiny soprano soars, whispers and purrs in all the right places, and her heartfelt, emotional piano balladry is present on this year's I Stand. As shiny and glossy as the plastic veneer on a Disney Princess board book, it works well on Broadway and the stage in general, even if it's not a completely viable contender in the belly-button baring pop world. Menzel brings her powerhouse balladry to Cary at 7:30 p.m. for $35-$50. —Kathy Justice

Chapel Hill
Gretel
The Cave—Boston folkie Reva Williams' breathy, pliant alto sashays hopefully, like a young summer-dressed siren putting on her Sadie Hawkins mack. Her trio's released two albums that waver easily between earnest, tasteful adult contemporary swoon to dramatic, textured piano paeans and gently drifting '70s rock from Laurel Canyon. Pay $5 at 10 p.m. —Chris Parker

Cary
Carolina Railhawks
Wake Med Soccer Park—Capping off a big soccer weekend in Cary, the Carolina RailHawks Men (including striker Connally Edozien, pictured at right) play a "friendly" against the Mexican first division's Rayados de Monterrey today at 4 p.m. Expect a packed house, a salsa vibe and all the soft tacos you can eat. Stick around afterward to catch the RailHawks Women's season finale against the Richmond Kickers Destiny at 7:30 p.m. Visit www.carolinarailhawks.com for tickets and scheduling info.
