Powerhockey Invitational

Millbrook High School, RBC Center— N.C. State University grad Jonathan Greeson didn't let his spinal muscular atrophy prevent him from embracing his favorite sport—hockey. In 2003, Greeson started the N.C. Electric Wheelchair Hockey Association for people whose disabilities require them to use a wheelchair.

Based near Goldsboro, the Carolina Fury, which is coed, includes players from throughout the state. The team will play in the Carolina Powerhockey Invitational this weekend, with preliminary rounds July 17-18 at Millbrook High School, 2201 Spring Forest Road. The finals are scheduled for today with games at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. at Millbrook High, followed by 2 p.m. finals at the RBC Center and a charity game afterward. Tickets are $10 for the three-day event, free for kids under 5. For more info, go to ncpowerhockey.com. —Lisa Sorg
