Raleigh
Madama Butterfly
Memorial Auditorium—Giacomo Puccini's classic tragedy Madama Butterfly gets a first-class treatment with the North Carolina Opera Company's staging at the Progress Energy Center. The classic tale deals with an Asian woman who defies tradition and marries an American sailor who cruelly abandons her for years. Internationally renowned lyric soprano Angela Maria Blasi leads as Cio-Cio San, the titular "Butterfly," with Adam Diegel, a veteran of this show, joining her as her lover, Lt. Pinkerton. The show concludes the N.C. Opera Company's acclaimed review of major Italian operas, which has included The Marriage of Figaro and Lucia di Lammermoor.
