Fancy Free
Memorial Auditorium, Progress Energy Center—Those who recall the classic musical On the Town (which recently screened at the N.C. Museum of Art) will get a thrill out of Fancy Free, Jerome Robbins' 1944 musical about a trio of sailors on leave in New York City. Fancy Free was Robbins' first ballet, and it catapulted him to instant fame. The new production is directed by Carolina Ballet Artistic Director Robert Weiss as part of a program celebrating Robbins and Leonard Bernstein, which also includes Weiss' Symposium on Bernstein's Serenade. The performances run Thursday through Sunday, with evening shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets run $10 (student rush price one hour before curtain) to $63—and may be purchased through the Progress Energy box office at 719-0900. For more information, visit —Zack Smith
