Raleigh
St. Patty's Run Green 8K
Moore Square—Isn't there something inherently cruel about starting an 8K run in front of Tir Na Nog, which makes the best darn Guinness wings in the Triangle? Who can think of intense exercise when the opportunity to drown your troubles in barbecue sauce and blue cheese beckons? Well, perhaps this will get you off your barstool: The first annual St. Patty's Run Green 8K is a U.S.A. Track and Field-sanctioned competitive race that takes runners through a newly certified downtown course. Profits from the race benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Eastern North Carolina. And the race minimizes landfill waste through the use of electronic race packets and compostable food and drink containers. All this, plus some prizes from Tir Na Nog and Brooks Sports, which I can only hope include some gift certificates for wings. For more race information or to register online, visit www.stpattysrungreen.com or call 349-1719. —Zack Smith
