Capital City Five
N.C. Museum of History—If you slept on the Blind Boys of Alabama (see Friday listing), expurgate yourself with this free, PineCone-presented performance by the Capital City Five. Now in their 65th year (although the quintet's newest vocalist has only been a member for the last 42), the a cappella sextet reaches deep into a mixed program of spirituals and gospel numbers. The difference, you're likely wondering? "Gospel is more like you're singing and preaching," clarifies CC5's James Thomas. "The spirituals, though, they're the songs that just come out of your soul, that tell about people's experiences and express them that way." The concert starts at 3 p.m. in Daniels Auditorium. —Spencer Griffith

Pullen Park Theatre—Theatre in the Park opens its 2008 season with a tale of malice, mayhem and ... marriage? Indeed! Michele Lowe's dark comedy, Smell of the Kill, tells the tale of three not-so-merry wives who are faced with a tempting proposition when their overbearing spouses accidentally lock themselves in a walk-in freezer. Will the women reconcile or retreat? However chilly the outcome may be, this show should thrill and delight. The curtain rises at today's 3 p.m. matinee for $13-$21. —Kathy Justice
