Stax waxing

Kudos to Grant Britt for his lively and informative article on Mavis Staples ("Gospel staple still takes you there," March 15). It's wonderful and refreshing to see that legends such as Staples still capture the eye of the press, as well as the hearts of old fans and new, younger fans alike. I have had the privilege of working with Ms. Staples in her efforts to support the Stax Museum of American Soul Music and Stax Music Academy for at-risk, inner-city children in Memphis, and Britt did a wonderful job of capturing her bubbly personality and her generous spirit. Thanks to Independent Weekly for allowing him the space to give such an iconic figure in American music such well-deserved coverage.
