SpaceGhostPurrp

When: Sat., March 23, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $10

Lo-fi goth rapper and self-described "trillwave" dude SpaceGhostPurrp looks back to hip-hop full of tape hiss and the rudimentary looping of the early '90s. Yes, that is when the 21-year-old Purrp was born. The main influences on his discordant, dirge-like productions include Three 6 Mafia's mean mugging and devil-worshipping stomp, Tupac's stuck-in-hell rage, and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony's occult whispers. Purrp is signed to 4AD, the current home of Ariel Pink and Gang Gang Dance, two other eccentrics who make new sounds from faded memories and broken-down grooves. Arrive dead-eyed and geeked up, and you'll fit right in. —Brandon Soderberg
