Southern Culture on the Skids, New Town Drunks, Fantastico

When: Fri., Dec. 14, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $13-15

While this isn't billed as a holiday show, Southern Culture does have a track record for this stuff: You'll find their version of "Merry Christmas Baby" on the 1996 holiday collection Just Say Noel, along with tracks by Beck, The Roots and Sonic Youth (all Geffen labelmates at the time). Whether they'll gravitate more toward yuletide material than Southern-fried fare from recent albums such as Countrypolitan Favorites and The Kudzu Ranch is anyone's guess, but the smart money's on a balance of both. The New Town Drunks and Fantastico open the 9 p.m. show. —Peter Blackstock
