South Carolina Broadcasters, Bevel Summers

When: Tue., April 9, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $3

The South Carolina Broadcasters are a good fit for their hometown of Charleston, a place with an emphasis on historical preservation, or making sure the present is never too far removed from the past. The Broadcasters' skilled and energetic approach to old-time music similarly merges musical eras, borrowing back-porch intricacy from the genre's pre-recorded days and delivering its harmonies with a warmth that recalls the AM dial. Opening act Bevel Summers' ideas are a little more diverse: The Chapel Hill outfit opts for far-ranging folk-rock, sliding from bleak acoustic blues to comfortably rough jams that nod to The Band. —Jordan Lawrence
