Just imagine if North Carolina's one-hit R&B wonder-diva Sunshine Anderson had reinvented herself back in 2007 when the soul-house outfit Blaze revved up her ballad "Force of Nature" to a remixed, four-on-the-floor dance gem. She could have ridden that unicorn deep into uncharted nu-disco fame—consequently providing enhanced boogie for this weekend's annual Soul Picnic concert. Well, at least she has a hometown advantage. If she doesn't exploit it, folks will still be counting on Chi-Town rapper Da Brat to be just as juiced as she's ever been. There's also Naughty by Nature's beloved "Illtown" (East Orange, N.J.) party anthems, Ginuwine's racy hip-thrusters and 112's mattress-pleasers. Either bring the family or leave Koka Booth with plans to make one, but end your summer with a jamboree of back-in-the-day jams. —Eric Tullis
