@Donald: You forgot to include Fort Hood in your list.
As a former Journo, may I recommend the writer remember the job of the Fourth Estate is to report news without bias, relying on facts, sources, reason, logic, and empirical data. There is not room for emption, nor opinion, unless you offer a prior disclaimer identifying yourself or your medium as an opinionated writer, an Op-ed, or news program; such as those found on FOX, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, et al.
I say this because of the eighth paragraph intro: "Not surprisingly, . . .". That the Representative submitted bills, vocalised support, and voted for gun rights legislation does not equate one being against Same-Sex marriage. Even with the late-son's Facebook post, mentioned later in the paragraph, there is no direct association between Rep. Pittman's stance on gun control and gay marriage (notwithstanding that he opposes the institution) relating to this article. You, or your editorial board, injected this personal bias, Gay marriage has nothing to do with this sad event. I am not championing for, nor against, it and I merely want to try and refresh your journalistic integrity and the lessons you learned before becoming a staff writer. Save opinions for the opinion section, have a separate blog voicing your stance, or whatever vehicle you feel fitting. Report the facts as they happened and only draw a correlation when one exists. Good Day.
