Silent Night, Deadly Night 2

When: Wed., Dec. 12, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $5.50

There's a fundamental appeal to the idealized mythology of the holidays being turned into something, well, effed up. There's just something odd about a strange man coming down your chimney, after all. That's why there have been a number of Killer Santa movies, such as this Cinema Overdrive screening of 1987's Silent Night, Deadly Night 2, with the awkwardly-worded tagline "Prayers won't save you in the silent part of this night." It's not so much a sequel to the 1984 original as a strange re-edit about the brother of the first film's killer going crazy on his own, with tons of footage of the first film reused to insert him into the old story. Naturally, this movie developed a cult following for its campiness, as well as the over-the-top performance of Eric Freeman as the killer. (It inspired the cult one-liner "Garbage Day!", a clip of which has been viewed more than 4 million times on YouTube). Enjoy a massive hunk of Christmas cheese with this screening, which starts at 8 p.m. and includes some classic trailers. —Zack Smith
