Second Thursday Reading Series

When: Thu., March 14, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: Free

Two poets who chart geographies of the spirit read their work at this monthly event. Chera Hammons of Amarillo, Texas, won the 2012 Jacar Press Chapbook Competition with her Amaranthine Hour. Echoing the idea of an amaranth—a flower that never wilts—competition judge John Hoppenthaler noted that Hammons' work "teeters at the brink of sadness but refuses to give in to it." Tennessee poet Jeff Hardin's most recent collection, Notes for a Praise Book, captured the Jacar Press Book Award in 2012. Hardin celebrates the mundane without elevating it. Bring a short poem or two of your own for the open mic that follows the reading. —Chris Vitiello
