Saul Williams, CX Kidtronik

When: Fri., Feb. 24, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $15-17

Last year, poet and musician Saul Williams released Volcanic Sunlight. Compared with his own "List of Demands" and his collaboration with Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!, it was often seen as fairly disappointing. But while the focused rage that typified Williams' aggressive older releases has subsided some, his sense of purpose and focus is as strong as ever. Song titles such as "Look to the Sun" and "Explain My Heart" suggest Williams is now reaching out to skeptics with an open hand instead of banging his bully pulpit with a fist. CX Kidtronik opens the 8 p.m. show. —David Raposa
