Raleigh
RALEIGH RUMBLE
SLIM'S—Vintage bikes roam Raleigh (and Durham Sunday morning at The Federal) this weekend thanks to the third annual Raleigh Rumble. The weekend's music features rockabilly grooves courtesy of The Straight 8s. They range from the Cramps style of "Mean Go Getter" to the surf inflections of "Ann Bowman." Adding to the fun are noisy garage-punkers the Makebelieves, whose gritty chunk sounds like the Stooges giving New Bomb Turks a beatdown. Also, Skullbuckle. The rock show starts at 8 p.m., but the rumble starts Friday. For more, see www.raleighrumble.com. —Chris Parker

ED KOCH
MCINTYRE'S FINE BOOKS—Today Ed Koch, mayor of New York City for more than a decade, will discuss and sign his book at McIntyre's, located in Fearrington Village. Never a shrinking violet, Koch has continued to be influential since leaving office—and unpredictably so, endorsing both Rudy Giuliani for mayor of New York and Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination for president. However, he's long since soured on Giuliani, writing numerous editorial attacks in the New York Daily News since 1996. These articles form the basis of Koch's book that, by the way, is titled Giuliani: Nasty Man. The event begins at 11 a.m. For more info, visit www.fearrington.com. —Ashley Roberts
