Blonde Redhead; Strawberry Festival

Blonde Redhead
  • Blonde Redhead

CAT'S CRADLE—Though it's true that 23, the seventh and most mellifluous album from San Francisco trio Blonde Redhead, feels too cosmetically doctored by the hands of famed producer Alan Moulder, Blonde Redhead still tessellates texture and tune with uncanny liquid grace, epitomized here by the phoenix-shaped breadth of "Dr. Strangelove." Kazu Makino's still one of the best vocal mistresses of mood in music, and her twin-brothers band of multi-instrumentalists is as curious as it is adventurous. Annuals, the powerful Raleigh sextet whose shape-shifting indie rock lacks much of the mystery and subtlety that's made Blonde Redhead provocative for a decade, open. Tickets are $16 for a 9:15 p.m. start. —Grayson Currin
