Liars

Cat's Cradle--Radiohead's Thom Yorke gets infamously infuriated when critics liken emerging bands to the sound he's established as Britain's premier manic songwriter: Back when Coldplay and Travis were dubbed second-rate Radiohead, Thom got all paranoid android and stuff. Luckily, when critics favorably pointed out the similiarity between Radiohead's latest work and Liars' newest record, Drum's Not Dead, he embraced it all, even blogging "liars >drums not dead/ Berlin must be a good place to work." That's right, former dance-punk freakniks Liars left New York and that struggling sound for Berlin and the epic evolution of their third album: massive, tribal drumbeats; way-alternate tunings; melodies mutated; character developments ... album of the year, Thom? Perhaps, I say. Apes and Deerhunter open at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. --Grayson Currin

Attack of the 50 Foot Reels

Flicker Headquarters--Participatory filmmaking returns to the Triangle with the third annual Attack of the 50 Foot Reels. The game is simple: After reporting to 916 Sedgefield in Durham at 10 a.m., teams take a single roll of Super-8 film, fan out across the area and shoot an in-sequence three-minute movie about a subject or story of their choosing. The films are due back by the 7 p.m. wrap party. Work will then be held up to public scrutiny on June 6 at Cat's Cradle. C'mon, you know you've got an inner Spielberg. Bring $15 for the film and processing, and $5 for each person on the team besides you. For more, see flickerfestival.com. --David Fellerath
