CHAPEL HILL
PEEPFEST 2007
MARKET STREET BOOKS—Remember Peeps, that wonderful Easter candy that doubled as an exciting microwave experiment? Market Street Books does! Today from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. they will hold PeepFest 2007. There will be candy, competitions and poetry, plus a concert by the band When Cousins Marry. For more information, visit www.marketstreetbooks.com or call 933-5111. —Megan Stein

CARRBORO
DARK MEAT
RESERVOIR—Brilliant circus freaks that don't give a good god damn about Chapel Hill rock show decency, Athens' many-member Dark Meat meld soul to jazz to rock to everything epic. They're one of the best live bands below the Mason-Dixon line, and I only make the Southern stipulation because they imbue what's best about Southern rock: Dark Meat embraces the genres that make them happy and melts them until they blend perfectly, putting the product in on display while it's still as hot and sticky as the August Athens air responsible for such perfect revelry. Seriously, if you've never seen this band, buy their fantastic debut, Universal Indians, and know these songs, live, are movies compared to the record's scene sketches. If you've seen them before, you're probably already in the Carrboro queue. The 10 p.m. show is free. —Grayson Currin
