Europe Central
Manbites Dog Theater—William T. Vollmann's award-winning novel Europe Central tells the history shared by Russia and Germany with riffs on art, music, literature and history. These texts and art forms are explored in Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern's original stage adaptation, with a dream meditation on art's survival in the midst of WWII's madness and a psychological portrait of some of Europe's political and cultural players (Hitler and Stalin, and Anna Akhmatova, Kathe Kollwitz and Dmitri Shostakovich). Tickets for the 8:15 show are $17; the play runs through Feb. 2. Visit —Kathy Justice

Rock for Roe Benefit
Cat's Cradle—Rock for your rights at Planned Parenthood's annual fundraiser. This year's lineup features Chapel Hill's pop-noirists The Old Ceremony, the campy stage strut of Durham's drag-artist outfit The Cuntry Kings, and the smooth blues and funk of Pittsboro's Old 86. Join the Countdown to Change at midnight to celebrate Dubya's last year in office. Show starts at 9:15 p.m. for $10-$14. —Kathy Justice

Pullen Aquatic Center—This annual whitewater rafting event runs from 6-10 p.m., with a gear swap from 4-10 p.m. The $15 entry fee covers instructional clinics. Call 831-6855. —Megan Stein
