A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION WITH ROBIN AND LINDA WILLIAMS
N.C. MUSEUM OF ART—The bluegrass and old-time acoustic tunes that Robin and Linda Williams play are as comforting as the Midwest radio show they've appeared on for more than 30 years now, A Prairie Home Companion. They're reliable, nostalgic and commercial-free. In probably the most literal connection of the museum's music and movie series this summer, the Williamses star in Robert Altman's cinematic take on A Prairie Home Companion. The concert starts at 7 p.m., with the movie to follow. The price is $15 for the adults, with children ages 7 to 12 in for $12 and littler ones in for free. —Margaret Hair

Chapel Hill
KAPOW! MUSIC, THE PRIVATE SEA
NIGHTLIGHT—A strong pop triptych, this bill welcomes the return of Kapow! Music's leader John Ribo, who spent the summer traveling between Spain and Texas and writing his first full-length album. Sort of like Stephen Malkmus finding order, directness and sincerity early on, Kapow! Music charms on behalf of Ribo's comfortable, confiding delivery. Philadelphia five-piece The Private Sea injects detectable longing in well-pitched hooks, handing their songs over to the right anthem-making risks—brooding textures, teasing swells, magnetic harmonies and a batch of influences ranging from Spiritualized to The Jesus & Mary Chain. Also, Nathan Oliver. Pay $5 at 10 p.m. —Grayson Currin
