Cary
Carolina RailHawks vs. New England Revolution

WakeMed Soccer Park—It's been something of a stormy off-season in American soccer. At the top level, Major League Soccer, there has been a still-unresolved labor dispute between players and owners. At the next level down, Division 2, there was a pitched battle between the United Soccer League and a group of dissident owners, including those of the Cary-based Carolina RailHawks. Thankfully, the worst-case scenario of no soccer was averted with a jerry-rigged temporary compromise. Tonight, two groups of relieved—one hopes—players will face off in a preseason tune-up between the New England Revolution of the MLS and the RailHawks. The Revs have a couple of Triangle natives on their team, while the RailHawks return most of the key players from last year's strong squad. Tickets start at $12 and kickoff is 7 p.m. Visit www.carolinarailhawks.com. —David Fellerath

Carrboro
Billy Sugarfix, Anna Bullard, The Houston Brothers

Nightlight—Carrboro's Billy Sugarfix and Charlotte's Anna Bullard should woo with heartsickness, though their presentation of the same affliction is provocative for its contrast. Sugarfix is stark and a tad acerbic, his careful, playful study of the pain sounding a bit harsh with his slightly nasal intonation. Bullard, though, sounds sweet and suppliant, singing her "I'm Sorry" with the gravitas of sincerity. The Houston Brothers are Charlotte brothers Justin and Matt Faircloth, multi-instrumentalists who burrow deep into the drifting, mournful pop of the late Sparklehorse before bounding out like Clem Snide with a mile-wide grin. Also, North Elementary's John Harrison. Pay $5 at 9:30 p.m. See www.nightlightclub.com. —Grayson Currin
