Duke University—New York pianist, composer and improviser Jason Moran has become something of the model artist for Duke Performances over the last three years. In October 2007, he premiered In My Mind, a multimedia look at the music of Thelonious Monk—and his own interpretive memories of that work, in connection with Duke's much ballyhooed Jazz Loft Project. Moran also served as the pianist in an ensemble that re-created some of the selections from Monk's 1970 residency at The Frog and Nightgown Jazz Club in Raleigh. A little more than a year later, Duke's programmers came north, and Moran presented In My Mind again, this time in Town Hall, the site of Monk's infamous but often overlooked concerts with his orchestra. And now Moran returns south to play with his wife, soprano Alicia Hall Moran, and classical guitarist Thomas Flippin in a nebulous trio. They'll play Thursday at 8 p.m. in Nelson Music Room ($22 or $5 for Duke students). On Friday and Saturday, Moran will join Alonzo King's LINES Ballet with another trio, playing a score Moran wrote for King. Those 8 p.m. shows at Reynolds Industries Theater cost $24-$32 or $5 for Duke students. See www.dukeperformances.org. —Grayson Currin

Goodnight's Comedy Club—One of the joys of stand-up at Goodnight's is that every so often you get a H.I.T.G.: "Hey, it's that guy!" You know, the actor you remember from the bit part in that movie or that guest role on a TV show whose name you can't quite place. Larry Miller happens to be one of the better H.I.T.G. actors: You might remember him as the boutique manager in Pretty Woman, the doorman on that episode of Seinfeld, the pants-less lawyer on the first episode of Boston Legal, the dean who tries to fire Eddie Murphy in The Nutty Professor or the dad in 10 Things I Hate About You (both the film and TV series). If you watch TV or movies with any regularity, you've either seen him or heard his voice. And now you can see him in person Friday and Saturday at Goodnight's with special guest Stewart Huff. Showtimes are at 8 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. both nights. Ticket prices vary; visit www.goodnightscomedy.com. —Zack Smith
