Rodney Atkins, Clay Walker, James Otto, Jason Michael Carroll

When: Thu., Nov. 18, 7:30 p.m. 2010
Price: $25

Four great modern country voices come together to benefit the North Carolina Children's Hospital. The rich baritone of North Carolina's Jason Michael Carroll begins the show with a shot of country that borders on mid-tempo rock. Following Carroll, James Otto's soulful vocals coo into his lover's ear (yes, "Just Got Started Lovin' You" is a few years old now, but damn, it's still hot). On the country charts since the early '90s, Clay Walker delivers heartfelt choruses rising up through contemporary country ballads, each one a celebration of, or a cathartic end to desire. At his best with communal foot-stomping songs like "These Are My People," headliner Rodney Atkins has been guilty of dad-rock country schlock like "Watching You." Of course, when he sings from his son's perspective, "I've been watching you, Dad, ain't that cool?" at a benefit for a children's hospital, will anyone complain? —Andrew Ritchey
