Vocal affectations can be a slippery slope. That high, angsty warble favored by many singers not blessed with great natural voices has roots reaching back to Neil Young, but it's been overplayed among indie rockers. Rocky Votolato wisely steers clear; yes, he's an indie rock singer-songwriter with a high-pitched voice, but on last year's True Devotion and the handful of fine LPs that preceded it, Votolato sounds like himself: warm, a little rough around the edges, but real. He shares the bill with Matt Pond, leader of the band Matt Pond PA, whose recent recordings are lush enough that this solo acoustic performance offers an intriguing change of pace. Tickets to the 9 p.m. show are $10 in advance, $12 day of show. —Peter Blackstock
