Rich Leonard

When: Tue., Jan. 15, 7 p.m. 2013

Raleigh judge Rich Leonard has turned author with The House by the Creek, a historical tale for younger readers that has its basis in one of his family legends. Set in 1781, it's the story of a young boy who must protect a family cache of gold from the Tories in the waning days of the Revolutionary War. It's based not only in Leonard's family history, but in the history of North Carolina and its role in the war. Leonard will read from and sign copies of the book at 7 p.m. —Zack Smith
