Retrofantasma Classic

When: Fri., Dec. 3, 7 p.m. 2010
Price: $8

Ah, Vincent Price. Even kids who've never seen a horror movie know his face and voice, whether it's supplying the narration in Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video, the Tim Burton short Vincent or that really lousy Scooby-Doo series where they fought "actual" ghosts. (I'm sorry, the concept was running on fumes at that point.) But Price in his prime is the subject of this double dose of classics, including his own favorite performance in 1973's Theater of Blood, where he plays a Shakespearean actor taking bloody revenge on his critics. Actual critics were decidedly less enamored of the film, for obvious reasons, but Price has a grand time getting to recite the classic monologues of Shakespeare and engaging in some of the goriest murders ever committed to celluloid.

Theater of Blood is followed by The Masque of the Red Death, one of Roger Corman's classic Edgar Allan Poe adaptations, with Price as Prince Prospero. As in the classic tale, a party to stave off Death himself backfires when the uninvited guest crashes the party. Tickets to the 7 p.m. double feature are $8. —Zack Smith
