Retro Classics

When: Fri., Nov. 2, 7 p.m. 2012
Price: $8

After years of showing creature features, horror flicks, supernatural yarns and whatnot in its Retrofantasma series, the Carolina Theatre brings another type of cinematic terror for this month's Retro Classics double feature: '70s conspiracy thrillers. Friday brings two of the era's bleakest, most suspenseful paranoid trips: Alan J. Pakula's 1974 flick The Parallax View and Sydney Pollack's 1975 film Three Days of the Condor. Both co-written by Lorenzo Semple Jr. (best known for developing the '60s Batman TV show), the films basically have the same plot: Uber-handsome leading man (Warren Beatty in View; Robert Redford in Condor) uncovers a conspiracy that has him running for his life as people all around him keep ending up dead. However, as Beatty falls deeper and deeper into a dismal abyss with no hope for a positive outcome in View, at least Redford has the chance in Condor to get some from Faye Dunaway. Tickets for the 7 p.m. double bill are $8. —Craig D. Lindsey
