Re: guns in Chapel Hill

In regards to your story "Loaded for bear," (Jan. 22) I want to make some observations. It is absurd that while criminals are shooting folks on Rosemary Street, the town council and mayor are trying to prevent law-abiding citizens from defending themselves. If Kaaren Haldeman, who claims a "child is shot in this country every 30 minutes," and Councilman Lee Storrow REALLY want to "stand up to gun violence" they should press for strict and swift penalties for gun-using thugs, and leave the rest of us alone to follow state law in regards to our self-defense needs.

Ed Weintraub, Chapel Hill

  • Strict penalties for gun-using thugs and leave other to self-defense needs?
