Beast mode: That video game term went mainstream when Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch bulled 67 yards through the entire New Orleans Saints defense to score in a 2011 playoff game. In the classical music realm, the term applied six years earlier to pianist Rafal Blechacz's romp through the 15th International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition. Just 20 at the time, Blechacz captured first place, as well as honors for best polonaise, best sonata, best mazurka and best concerto. This prodigy who keeps getting better brings an uncanny clarity to Chopin's emotionally complex music. This program features three Chopin pieces—including two polonaises—as well as sonatas by Beethoven and Szymanowski. Arrive early to get a good sight line to Blechacz's hands. —Chris Vitiello
