I was not surprised to see your endorsement of Phillip Graham in the Durham School Board race. He is a fine candidate. However, I was surprised at the racist assumption on which a part of your reasoning was based. Stating that Dr. Carl Harris would have an easier time working with an African-American majority school board makes assumptions about Dr. Harris racial attitudes that are unfair. Whether intentionally or not, you have implied that somehow his ability to have good relationships with the school board is dependent on the race of the board members. I believe that you owe him an apology, or that you owe your readers an explanation about why you would make such an assumption about this educator.
