Punch Brothers with Chris Thile

When: Tue., Oct. 16, 7:30 p.m. 2012
Price: $39-109

Mandolin in tow, Punch Brothers frontman Chris Thile has wowed audiences with his virtuosity since middle school. This year, at 31, Thile became the youngest recipient of the MacArthur Genius grant. The award touts a secret selection process and presents winners with a $500,000 no-strings-attached award. And Thile isn't the only virtuoso in the Punch Brothers lineup: All five members boast fierce instrumental chops, blending classic bluegrass drives with modern Americana, pop and rock. Their instrumental skills haven't cluttered the spirit of their songwriting; the more records they've made, the more innovative and free they've sounded. —Ashley Melzer
